I know this has been discussed and charlie hardin has a tech tip on the subject as well but I think I am stumped on my wiring hookup. I bought a signal switch from one of the truck parts places and it is not a Signal Stat. This is the one everyone sells for around $25 and is pictured in most of the parts books (Classic and Carters, etc). It has 7 wires, most of which are obvious to hook up. Where I am having problems I think is with the brake light switch hookup. I took the left tail light wire off the brake switch post and ran it to the red line on the signal switch, I then hook the brown line from the signal switch to that open post on the brake light switch. I run a new line to the right tail light and hook it to the orange line. I disconnect the two rear brake lights but leave the two tailights connected. My hot is from the acc on the ignition. I connect the battery and the right brake light is on constantly and the rear lights won't blink and that is with the key off. The parking lights work fine by the way. So with all this said, what have I obviously done wrong to you experts out there? Any ideas??

For one thing, you should not have power at the ACC terminal with the key off. Something is obviously wrong there.

When you say "I disconnect the two rear brake lights but leave the two tailights connected.", I assume you mean you removed the jumper from one brake light to the other and the brake lights are connected separately to the turn switch. That would be right.

If the right brake light has power with the turn switch in neutral, either you have something wired wrong or the switch is a dud.

Re-check your wiring diagram to be sure you have everything where it should be.

Cletis, I appreciate the quick response. I tried changing the brake switch connections around and I believe I have fixed the whole thing. The wire leading from the brake switch to the fuse box was yellow with one green stripe, so I assumed that was the battery side..turns out both wires from the brake switch were the same color and had the same green stripe. So reversing them gave me the fix. I had the tail light wire hooked to the battery post on the switch. The technician that wire the truck in 47 must have run short of a different color wire to run to the brake light. This is what makes this so much fun.
