I have been considering putting a 235 in my '47. Another teacher at school says he knows of a 235 for sale but its a '65 and the engine blocks are longer on the later model 235s. Is this true or are they all the same? Does the 235 just drop in or is there fabrication involved?

The last year of production for 235s was 1962.

A 235 is a fairly easy replacement for a 216 (what was most likely originally in your truck). The blocks are the same lengths. Depending on the year and origin of the 235, you might have to do minor adaptations of motor mounts and water pumps. You would use your original clutch housing and clutch assembly (and starter).

Find out if the motor is a 235 and its year of manufacture.

Was not 1962 the last year for the 235? A 1965 would be a 230 or 250 or ?? These later engines are not a near-drop in as is any 235 or 261.

Yes, 1962 was the last year, although there have been reports of some '63 3/4 ton 4x4s with 261s in them. Also, GM do Brasil used the 235 well into the '70s, although I doubt one of those would be in KS.

As for the new 6's (63 on), check out Chevrolet Inline 6 Power Manual on Amazon and look through the first few pages. There's a graphic of the difference in shape of the 62 and 63 blocks. It says the later blocks are 24% lighter and show them as a little shorter, too.
