My shifter "arm" on the column seems too close to the steering wheel. I always whack my knuckles. I can push it forward but I have seen parts to rework or repair this problem.
Does one need to drill out the rivets to in stall these parts? | | |

What year?
What rivets?
If it is a '51 GMC, are you referring to the round pins/plugs where the shifter arm "pivots" on the holder/shoulder that attaches to the steering column?
