Is there a way to tell without a casting number book??? Which casting number do I look for? I only have a casting number book for Chevy V8s LOL!!! These inline 6s are "new" to me! LOL!!!

I believe there is a difference between the 216 and the 235 intake manifolds. Along with this the throat diameter of the 216 carburetor is slightly smaller than the 235 and the carburetor mounting bolts are spaced further apart on the 235. There are sites for checking the casting numbers and I think this has been addressed a number of times.

I think you'd have a hard time distinguishing a pre-50 235 from a 216 by comparing outward appearances. Block (and head) casting numbers would be nice.

Where is the block casting number on a 216? At the upper right of the starter?

Follow the link to the Inliners site in this link. The block casting numbers move around. Some are near the starter, some are forward of the distributoe, some are foreard of the fuel pump. Do you have some pictures of your engine?
