HEY ALL,
HAVE ROD AND MAIN BEARING DIAMETERS CHANGED THROUGH THE YEARS FOR THE 292. THE REASON I ASK IS BECAUSE I AM USING A 61-71 CHILTON MANUAL ON A 76 292. MY MAIN BEARING JOURNALS ARE COMING IN AT 2.9001-2.9002, WHICH, ACCORDING TO MY BOOK IS .008 SMALL. MY ROD JOURNALS ARE COMING IN AT 2.0992, WHICH IS RIGHT IN SPEC. IS IT COMMON FOR ROD JOURNALS NOT TO WEAR AS MUCH AS MAIN JOURNALS?
THANKS,
BO

Your main journals may have been machined .010" under their original diameter. If your stock journal dia was .002" larger than book spec and the machinist took .010" off, then you'd be .008" under stock book dia. The machinist goes by both book spec and actual journal dia when machining a crank. Check your old main journal shells, are they std or .010"?

I'LL CHECK MY MAIN BEARINGS WHEN I GET HOME(I BROUGHT MY CRANKSHAFT TO WORK AND LEFT THE REST AT HOME) THIS IS ODD, FOR I BOUGHT THIS MOTOR OUT OF A 76 TRUCK WITH 75,000 MILES ON IT AND IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT'S EVER BEEN CRACKED.
HMMMMM
