Looking through the 1946 Salesman Data Book at Brad's 41'-46' Chevy site, I found a 3.73 rear end for trucks was Option 201.
The "Economy Rear Axle" was offered in place of the 4.11 rear. It is the second entry from the bottom of the page.

http://www.brads41-46chevys.com/id25.html

Was this option offered in other years for the 4.11:1 rear end in Chevy or GMC trucks?
A quick romp through the Chevy resto packs at the K Hardy site showed the 4.11 rear standard for 1/2 tons from 42-53, I believe. The 3.90 showing up in 54.
I have no info from any Salesman Data books except the 46' one online.

Could anyone add to this info on the optional 3.73 rear for trucks?

Thanks for the link Randy, if I ever finish the '50, 3604 AD that I'm working on now I'd like to take a step back and look for a nice complete Art Deco. By the way, how you coming along on that 3/4 ton, haven't noticed any updates??
Yep, I'll bet those gears were kinda rare, i.e., right before and during the war but I would think after the war there were quite a few ordered with that option. Of course this series had a pretty short run in civilian life and anything made for the military was made for hauling a load for sure.
