How do I keep original oil pressure gage when installing 235 (55 235) to replace old 216? How do I keep original water temp gage? Can I use original vibration damper with 5/8 pulley? Can I use or buy short shaft water pump with 5/8 pulley? Do I have to buy an oil pressure gage to mount under the dash ? These are old questions but they are sincere ! Much Oblige ! rfortn @AOL.COM

For the oil pressure gauge, use one for a GMC and it will have the correct range. A decal set can give you the correct color too. I think that you can get a temperature gauge good for 220 from around a 1953 model.

I used a '54 Chevy oil pressure gauge by drilling out the rivets and swapping the faces with my old gauge, it looks factory and the needle color matched the rest.

For the temperature gauge, go to a large hardware store and buy a 1/2" male NPT to 3/8" gas flare female brass adaptor, and screw it right in to the hole in the thread. The gauge tube is a 3/8" male gas flare thread and seat. No teflon tape or sealer should be necessary.

For the dampener, you can use the one off the 216. You will probably need to get a redi-sleeve to put on the shaft where it seals, there is usually a groove cut in the shaft from the old seal.
