I'm at the beginning of restoring my 41 half ton, and when I took apart the drag link, I noticed that the ball seats had some deep scratches in them. So to be safe I ordered a drag link rebuild kit from Jim Carter. However, the new seats were ground very rough with noticeable pitting and they had a raised ring around the edge which prevents the balls from fully contacting the seat. They looked a lot worse than the originals. So I was wondering. How do you determine if the ball seats are excessively worn? And balls? And king pins? And spring shackles? Is it not a problem if replacement seats are rough? Will they somehow wear in?
