Does anyone here have the optional double action lever type shock absorbers for their 34-47 truck ?

Can you post some pics on what they look like as I dont have a shop manual. I have two different types of shocks,the set on my truck look different then the set I got off of a 38 that was made into a street rod. When I put the tube shocks on my 37 both sets will be available,I will trade them for beer or food.

I think the singles acting were standerd
the only Double acting I have seen were on the
1 1/2 ton army truck that we had I could be wrong but this is just what I have seen

Hello Jeff - Thanks for the response. I don't have pictures but the dual action shocks are almost twice as large and heavy. There are two cylinders on the body as opposed to one on the single action shocks. Can YOU take pictures ?

The dual action lever shocks were an option for 1/2 ton trucks. There is an extra hole drilled in your frame in front of the single action shock mounting holes intended to mount the dual action shock.
I would like to talk with someone who has a set of the dual action lever arm shocks in service or

I think my 37 has the shocks you are inquiring about,they look about twice as large as the shocks that came off of the 38. Those shocks have a inspection cover,the ones on my 37 have three bolts and the ones off the 38 have two. My truck came from the factory with overload springs so that might explain why they are on the truck and next winter they will be comming off unless by installing the single action shocks it will ride better and the shocks will be off of it by this spring.

Hi Jeff - The dual action shocks for trucks do NOT have an inspection cover. Internal access to the shock is by way of 2 ea 2 inch end caps that unscrew. There are some good pictures in the 42-46 repair manual. Thanks

I must have a heavier version of the single action shock as they are larger than the shocks I have from a 38,will look at some trucks in a local junkyard the next time I visit. Jeff

Jeff-I sure would like to see a picture of those shocks. The double action had the lever arm in the center and opposed cylinders on either end. Heavier single action ??? I don't know.

I am still running the optional dual action shocks on my '49 deluxe cab 1/2 ton.

One thing I can tell you is: Don't buy the bushing kits from places like Jim Carter, etc. They are for the single action which have a smaller diameter hole in the end of the arm. I made some for my truck using the rubber mounts off of modern tube shocks.

Is the ride improved on a truck that's not going to be used for hauling ?

Uh, how does it ride?! Let me put it this way......I much prefer long trips in our '51 (with modern tube shocks). No, I don't haul anything. It does ride a little better with our travel trailer hooked up though.

Stingray - thanks for the input. It sounds like I may be barking up the wrong tree if I expect a better ride with these shocks.
steppenwood - what I need are the brackets that the shock links attach to. The brackets that are mounted to the front axle and the rear end. They're different than the single action shock brackets. If you have a front and a rear bracket, and could just lay them on a piece of paper and draw the outline and mounting hole locations, that would do it for me.
