My truck was painted by the previous owner who along with misc parts gave me the paint can that has the info on what was used. The problem is I cannot figure out what it really is, and want to know before I try cleaning and waxing it.

The can says "Sikkens Autobase MM". Thanks.

all the mfgrs have informative websites, google is your friend .... sounds like it's a urethane base/clear type - or see here

Bill,

So from the sounds of it this is a base coat urethane. Does that mean it has a clear coat over it? Could it be the clear was never applied? How would I check without damaging the paint?

I thought base coat is dull compared to a single stage-

I would think it would look very dry without the clear-

My best quess.

Yeah, I think you are right. When I look closely at the truck there are a few spots where the sheen is not as great so I assumed I have a base coat clear coat. From there I took a bit of McGuires swirl remover and did not see any color transfer to my white cotton rag, so I am pretty sure the clear coat is in place.

My question now is, how to best fix a few stone chips that I have understanding this is a clear coat set up? Thanks!
