For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 | I have purchased a web type cowl seal for my ’41 and I’m trying to figure out how to keep it in place on the cab’s cowl. Yes each side of the cowl has 3 holes for maybe sheet metal screws. It’s the area between these screws that I’m concerned with. I remember removing all that was left of a short section of the old seal and it seems to me that there was a wire involved with the hold down.
The web material I have has a sort of grove all along the length of one side so I’m guessing maybe a sort of stiff wire may have laid in this grove. This wire would have to be bent into the shape/curve to match the cowl.
Anyone got any ideas?? Was there a wire?? Where to get one?? What to use as a substitute??

i just removed what was left of the cowl seal on a 41 donor cab i got last week. there was a wire in the webbing held down by some little plates at the screw holes. there were 2 wires one starting on either side of the hood hinge holder bracket. the wires had a loop on the end to start in the first holes on the top of the cowl. i do not know if it is supposed to have a loop at the bottom or last hole due to the fact that part was cut away from the cab i got. the wire is 3/32 dia.

However mine had no screw holes at all to hold down seal. I bought a new one at J Carters and there is no provision for screws. I was goin get in place and glue down and close? The wire goes in the hole on the top of the cowl and is bentover under the dash. The wire on the bottom of the cowl is inserted in to the hole and bent over. Then you should have a threaded J- Hook. If I remember correctly in is about a 10-24 thread. The hook goes into the hole at the beltline and a washer and nut goes on inside the cab and draws the webbing down tight to the cowl. I hope this explanation makes sense. Cleon | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 | Thanks guys for the responses.
Turns out that I used only the metal clips to hold the webbing. I did use 31,32,33’s information. I installed the end clips first and used the one in the dent at the beltline to pull the web tight.
I wonder if there were several methods of attaching this seal over the years including a few for replacements

At first it seemed like it was going to be flapping in the wind, but after closing the hood, the weight of the hood holds the web in place. That was like 4 years since I installed it and there hasn't been any problems. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 | I have put the regualr webbing on (no wire) with 3 screws and 3m trim cement. Works well. Cleon | | |
