In a recent thread on a new A-D project, one of the photos had a flashlight mounted in a clip on the lower left of the steering column. That is . . . TOTALLY COOL! I'd seen it before and forgotten it, but now, I HAVE to have one for my firetruck. Of course, it has to be vintage & authentic, or at least real close.

Did a search in the forums, came up empty.

Anyone know who made these?

We sold them at our gas stations 50 years ago. They were for steering columns about the diameter of a flash light. Wagon jobbers used to sell that kind of stuff to service stations. I haven't seen one in a long time.

I remember police cruisers use to have flashlights clipped to the steering columns. Check police supply links.

I see them on ebay fairly regularly. Joe, you might want to reconsider the free part. They usually bring some bucks. Sorry Michael.

I have one in my '58. My dad originally bought the truck from our neighbor in 1964 and that's been on there at least since then.

I need to see a picture!
It sounds like a part I'd really like to have on my '62 Suburban.

i would say if it's a valuable piece of safety equipment it should work and work when it's supposed to. modern fire dept's equipment have recharable flashlights. when you snap it into the holder it's on charge until you remove it. I for one want one that works and not really for show

Caroline & Jim, I agree whole-heartedly about it working. My '44 ton & a half originally had Grether Lanterns. I went so far as to track down the peculiar sized cells that power those (like D batteries on Steroids!) to make them work. When I find one, I will definately make it work.

Tiny, No harm done. I always believe in paying what an item is worth. I'll take a look on the 'bay.

As for a photo, I can't recall the user id, but a fellow just had a thread about an A-D pick-up he obtained after the P.O. passed away (his hat and coat still reside in the cab!). The truck came with 3 pallets of spare parts the po had pack-ratted over the years. When he finally posted pictures, the cab photo shows one of these flashlights.

Wish I could find that discussion again . . .
