I read somewhere that hanging fenders with wire may lead to distorted parts. I have thought about using the bolt holes to nail them on garage wall. My intent is keep them off floor and prevent damage as I disassemble. It may be a year or two before the body is ready for reassembly. I only have a 2 bay garage. Comments and suggestions encouraged.

Well, mine are hanging in the garage from a hook in the ceiling so I'll be watching this thread.

Never heard of that Brad, must be one of those urban legends. As far as I know based on a whole lifetime of fabrication, steel does not suffer from "creep," so hanging the fender from the ceiling is not going to distort it, unless the truck is still attached to it.
Now if you had a plastic or Zinc fender, well, that's a different story.

I saw that about distorted shapes warning in the NEW version of "How to restore your Chevrolet Pickup", by Tom Brownell, top of pg 27. The version with the color pictures.

My solution to fender storage and painting. I made these racks out of some scrap steel I had laying around. I eventually put casters on them so I could roll them around the shop.

Boy, would I love to have a shop big enough to store things on racks like yours! Those are sweet! I'm grateful to have tall ceilings so I don't bump my head on all the stuff hanging up there.

I bought those plastic coated screw-in hooks at HomeDepot and hung mine on the wall..was nice getting them off the floor and the un-mount easy

Like those fender stands, that would come in real handy while doing the metal bumping and they could be made to fold up to store real easy also. I’m not to nuts about working on a door in a vertical position, might be ok for storage but I’d rather have it lying flat to service or paint it. Woody had some nice wood racks he posted a while back. Nice shop, 50x100?

Back in the day most fender storage I saw was done using finger racks which was usually a metal rack with wood "fingers" on the vertical. The fender (and other panels) would rest on the rack while leaning against the fingers. Personally I wouldn't think you would have a problem however you store them unless you're planning on leaving off of the truck for a LONG time.

Mine hung from the ceiling for a long time with no effects.
