I have a 1955 series 1 model 3600 and a 1954 model 6100. Both trucks have a 235 cu.in. engine. The 6100 accelerator pedal is no more than an inch from the floor. Since I have not found the measurement for the distance from the floor to the bottom of the accelerator pedal, I would like to raise the accelerator pedal in the 6100 to the height as in the 3600. The factory assembly manual states the carburetor rod assembly P/N(3696702)is supposed to be the same lenth for both models. But the 6100 carburetor rod assembly is one inch longer than the one on the 3600(10 1/4 inches). I have not measured both accelerator rods yet. But again the manual states they are the same P/N(3701623). Also, the spring in both are different. Does anyone know what the correct spring tension and spring length should be? Again, the manual state P/N 3695705 but no additional information. As always, everyones help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

If you are comfortable with the way the 3600 feels just measure and convert the 6100 to the same dimentions. Most FLAPS will have an assortment of accelerator springs, just find the one that fits your style of driving. JMO

Sometimes you have to make the rod adjustable or modify the length. If a spacer or thickness of gasket under the carb. has been changed at one time it throws the carb linkage off.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

A bend in the rod will do it. Cutting the rod and threading it and putting in a turnbuckle makes a nice adjustable rod or cutting the end threading it and putting on a clevis works too.

Jeez, crenwelge, I thought I had an original idea, and now I see that you've already figured out the turnbuckle. Waaaaaaah!

Good luck finding a die to make the lefthand thread needed on one end of the turnbuckle! Buy a screen door tensioner, and modify the ends of it to make an adjustable throttle rod.

Are you sure one is left hand thread? I thought they were both right hand thread so that if you look at either end of the turnbuckle, turning counter-clockwise (widdershins) the rod would be pulled into the turnbuckle?

Every turnbuckle I've ever used had right hand threads on one end, and LH on the other. Turning the buckle one way lengthens, the other way shortens. Otherwise, the buckle would simply move back and forth on the threads, and not make a length difference. Look at a set of tie rods sometime. They're made the same way.

Owwww! I feel suitably chastised. Thank you for your input. Just remember, we have to design the things you break. eeeek

Funny! I am in the same boat here on my carb mods/linkage. I ordered 1/4" Heim joints from Speedway and overlooked the LH thread as standard (RH needs to be specified). I like the trunbuckle idea though. Would give one a tad more adjustability than just the heims on each end and need for an exact measument on the rod length. Just requires some playing with.
What is a good pedal height for me to start at... approximates on the trucks originally? Fredico, what is the height of the 3600 that is to your liking?
