I am planning on putting disc brakes on the front of my 65 SWB. Everything I see says that I can use ball joints and tie rod ends from a 73-87 C-10. My question is, do I have to buy one of the kits or can I simply go to my local auto parts store and buy parts for a 73-87 and bolt them on my truck. This is a more economical way for me to do the swap, rather than dropping $600 all at once for a kit.

Before you drop any money on a "kit" be sure you get the inside story on it.

Kits from CPP are notoriously expensive, troublesome to install with misleading instructions and even defective parts which they refuse to acknowledge or rectify despite repeated attempts by myself and others to get them to comment.

I lack the knowledge to advise you what exactly to buy but I'm confident that most of the parts you need can be bought over the counter from reputable sources.

i second what woddy says, and the same holds true with performanceonline. no real customer service,a nd no really detailed instructions.
do not buy in kit form.

i would also stay away from ccp. i didnt buy brakes i bought somthing else all there mesurments were 1 inch off. as for your brake my brother has a 69 3/4 ton chev and was givn a set of spindles rotors and calipers off a 73 chev 3/4. from a guy that knows his sh@# and he said it would be bolt on. my brother has not got off his lazy behind to do so i cant say how easy it is to do though.

That is good to know about CPP because that is where I had been looking at kits. I had some trouble with them once before on some other parts that I ordered. I think I may just try to go and buy my ball joints and tie rod ends and give it a try. If they don't work I am not out much money and will be able to pass the word on if it works or not to to others.
