#43198 09/02/2002 2:35 PM | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 158 knuckle head | | knuckle head Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 158 | Hello, This is my first post here, so bear with me if this topic has come up already.My 41 Chevy 1-1/2 ton is in need of a new engine.From what I read on this site, a 235 is an easy swap.I don't have a 235 but I do have a rusted 66 Chevy pu with a rebuilt 292 and granny four speed.From what I can see, the 292 and tranny will fit in, but what about the pedals mounted on the original clutch housing?Has somebody found a way to mount the pedals when swapping housings?I'm a good welder and can make new engine mounts and modify the cross member if necessary.A drive shaft shop said they can take care of adapting the driveshaft for me.Thanks | | |
#43199 09/02/2002 6:02 PM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 | The clutch linkage is not that big of an issue.Just make sure you have the correct adjustment (free-play) and try to make sure you have a straight line(horizontal) with the linkage from the pedal to the clutch release fork at the bell-housing.

The 292 will need its own bellhousing to go with the engine and tranmission.I have to make a bracket to hold the pedals or bolt them to the 292 housing.One way must be better than the other.Adapting the parking brake to the newer trans is very easy to do, but the pedals looks more of a project. | | |

#43202 09/04/2002 12:33 AM | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 30 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 30 | My truck is only 1/2 ton, but I'm using a flat bracket from the frame on left side and have bolted the stock pedals to the bracket. If you measure carefully, you can approximate where your original pedals were. Another alternative us 1/2 ton people have used is a bracket welded to the bellhousing to attach the pedals. Wish I knew what the 1 1/2 ton pedal location looked like and maybe I could help more. Another thought, if you have the room, is to use the pedal setup out of an AD truck. They had a bracket which mounted to the frame and one shaft for the clutch and brake pedals. I would have done this in my 1/2 ton, but just didn't have the room. | | |
