I really like clamshell front ends. Maintenance is so much easier. Does anyone know a source for fiberglass parts for Early '50 Chevy trucks?

I'm not holding my breath for a reply on this one.

I like the look, and I like being able to get in and work on the engine. Has anyone done this with the factory sheet metal?

I did the front end on a Pontiac Ventura II eighth miler once. It wasn't too bad even without pneumatic cylinders.

I think that the sheet metal on a Chevy truck might be kind of heavy.

Basically, you just weld or rivet the fenders to the hood, build a tubular frame that supports the hood, and put the hinges in the front. No need to cut the bottom rear parts off the fenders because there is no noticeable curvature there.

You will have to cut the front fenders because of the way the front fenders wrap around the bottom of the cab. I have seen it done this way before. I like the idea of a tilt front end, but the cut in the front fenders ruined the look.

Sorry, 53GMCPhil, you are right. It can be done neatly, but it requires some fabrication.
