41-46. OK, I just lost 90% of you. For the rest- Will a four speed (we're talking a stock 41-46 4 spd tranny) bolt up to replace the standard 3 speed on a '45 1/2 ton standard wheelbase? I have heard that the bell housings were different between the two. 4 speeds were standard offerings on the long WB CC102's but not an option to my knowledge on the CC101's. Thanks for any pointers.

Hi,
I'm not one 'who really knows sh--' but I do have a 45 4-speed bolted to a 235 setting in the corner of my garage. If you'd like I could pull them apart and take some measurements for you.

K10:

I don't think you'll have a problem. As far as I know all the 41-46 pickups had the same bell housing. It should bolt right up. There was a difference in the u-joints however, but if you have a whole u-joint to go with your 3spd you're in like Flyn.

Good Luck

Well, you know that the pre-'46 4 speed is a crashbox, right? You may want to upgrade to a '47-up SM420 for the synchros.

hello k10. i am delighted to know that i finally made it to the 90th percentile! what an honor! anyway, do you need an old four speed or what? i think i have what you want if you do. it is from a 49 gmc 3/4 ton, and i bet it will fit pretty good. i also have the touque tube and joints.if you are interested, let me know here or e-mail. we can size it up and if it fits, i will swap you for a bag of regular oreo cookies. i just read you post about the white elephant. that sucks. but i got to tell you, keep the peanuts. i like oreos.

Hey Gary,

If you're really interested in getting rid of that 4 speed (and it still works smile ) let me know... I have a 1955 3200 with a 235 and the 3 speed, but if a 4 speed would bolt in I would love that extra gear (plus a floor-shift smile )

Sorry to inform you guys that a 47 and earlier trans won't bolt up to a 48 and up clutch housing.

Rust Bucket is that line between 47 and 48 model years, or between Art Deco and Advance Design trucks?

In other words, which is my '47 Advance Design truck?

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...
