It depends on how much torque, or HP, and what speed (RPM) you need from the PTO shaft. What are you going to run? Muncie or Chelsea? modern or vintage? A modern Chelsea Single-gear PTO part # 100XRBJX-W3XA is one: shaft rotates same as engine rotation at 54% engine speed, has 7/8" dia. keyed output shaft and a cable or lever shift. Good for 125 ft-lb of torque at 1000 rpm. Good for dump hoist, etc. Search the swap meet or better maybe run an ad under parts wanted. One of the most important things about PTOs is the drive gear in the trans. PTO gear must match, hence a **** PTO is not likely to work on a GM trans.

Perhaps I should be looking for that type of pump instead, what do ya think ?

Yes my pump is mounted on driver side of Transmission and the controll comes through the floor.. The gear from the pump slides for and aft and engages into the trany. The hoses go up to the oil resorvoar, which is mounted between the passanger side and the driver side. The controll valve is part of the oil resorvoar.. 3 hoses are attachedt o the resoivoar. 1 in 1 out to the pump and one to the cylinder. | | |

Del Hydraulics in Buffalo, NY still make these for many applications, a PTO and pump combination-all-in-one. More common, I think was a PTO with a driveshaft to a remote mounted pump, sometimes pump, reservoir and control valve combined, which is called a dump-pump. Good luck.
