1st Thanks to all the bed advise I got for my 3800. I am seriously considering the Mar-K kit. I have tracked down almost all the other parts I will need except:

the 3800 (1 Ton) Running boards.. does anyone have pointers on where to go. I prefer steel to fiberglass, (I have found my fair share of 1/2 and 3/4 ton running boards but the 1 ton running boards were longer.

I can't wait to post my truck in the gallery.. it is coming along great !! And again thanks for all the advise.

I thought 3/4 and 1 ton were the same. Someone else will enlighten us shortly...

I hope you're right.. however, the 3/4 ton from wheel to wheel was 125 inches the 1 ton was 137 and the bed was almost 21 inches longer on the 1 ton. Don't have the specs on the running board lengths but the certainly look longer :-) Again thanks

Your best best is to post a want ad in the Swap Meet. I'll send you a Private Message with a name and email address of someone in AZ who sells used parts.

If you guys posted a city and state in your "location", someone local might contact you on where to look in your area.
Just a thought,

That's an excellent suggestion, Scott. The year, make, model, size of truck(s) would be very nice to have in the profile, too.

Is there still a question here?

I have a 1 ton with the 9' bed (as all 1 ton AD pickup's have) the running boards are the longest of any of the pickups.

I don't know of any aftermarket running boards for a 1 ton

If needed I can take some measurements from my 52 1 ton, and also a 1949 3/4 ton that is visiting for a few weeks?

Yes.. the question is still there. I am considering fabrication. I haven't found an after market 1 ton (my truck is a 1952) Will be talking to a fab place this weekend.. else going to the swap area as recommended.

With a flat bed, the running boards are short, not longer than the cab. I think that is the way the chassis came from the factory before the flatbed was installed.

Yes you are absolutely correct !! on a flat bed (or stake truck for that matter) they were the short running boards (I have 2 beautiful ones). I am considering a 9' step-side and these are the long running boards..

So the jig is up - you caught me.... I am seriously considering making my 1952 3809 a 3804 (hope this doesn't upset any bolters)

Thanks for the comments and feedback

i'm not sure which forum it was in but George had listed a long list of parts from the craiglist and I remember seeing several running boards in there for sale.

Panman and any of the rest of you take your parts wanted posts to the swap meet, please. This whole thread is close to being parts wanted material. But I'm leaving it here and open for Raptor to tell us what he found out from the fab man or for anyone who successfully makes or repairs some from shorter ones to tell about them.

My apologies for putting this in the wrong post area.. it sorta sounds like a parts thread. I will look in the swap meet.

(1) As for the fabrication, there was optimism and thoughts on how it could be done were discussed (but as you know there are a lot of variables here). And the price will be high (bummer). I am going to look and see if I can find one.

(2) I do have one more question that I hope the bolters can answer. Are the rear fenders the same between the 1 ton and 1/2 ton. From what I read this is true but would like an expert's opinion.

The 1/2 & 1 ton rear fenders are the same.

Did you try to contact the fellow in AZ - it's worth a try?

Raptor,

Have you considered modifying repop 3/4 ton boards?

Get 2 sets of 3/4 ton boards, cut the front section off of 1 set and the rear section off the other set and weld the 2 sections together, thus coming up with 1 set of longer running boards.

As was stated before, the fenders, cab mounting, etc. are all the same, just the length is different. By using the above method, you will have the correct mounts front and rear with the longer boards you need with the proper profile already in them. You may want to reinforce them from below after welding.

I have a 3804 myself, but it's a '59. I'll be modifying my running boards to allow for my dually rear wheels.

I have an older 46 style 1 ton with the longer running boards. While not and AD you will definitely need the longer running boards because of the extended wheel base.

Where are you going to get the 9' bed? Just like the running boards I haven't been able to find anyone making them.

Don't know where you're located but my experience is keep and eye on e-bay and craigs list. I've seen several projects cheap that people are giving up on and parting out or selling disassembled. After considering costs of fabrication some of the abandoned projects are cheaper. Unless of course you can do the fabrication yourself.

Keep us posted on your project, we'll be more interested in the results than being upset about the conversion.

InMy40's Mar-K make the bed for a 1952 1 ton so that's not a problem for me (BTW - I checked and they make them for 1947 1 ton too..) .. I and can get the fenders (after-market) .. I have a few leads.. but it also seem I need a few other hard to find parts.. maybe I should leave it a stake truck (ha ha) - but I am seriously considering that
