saturday i took both drum and backing plates off, and got the calpier brackets mounted.
first problem i ran into last weekend was the bearing spacer that slides onto the spindle, it was too small to slide onto the spindle. i had to take it to work and open the i.d up another .004. now it fits perfect.
because i have a stretched, dropped front axle, i had to grind a spot on the axle arm where the caliper to spindle bolt was hitting the axle. no biggie, pretty easy. got the brackets mounted to the spindles last weekend,a nd also took the old master and all the brake lines out.
tonight i mounted the rotors, and tried to mount the calipers to the bracket, but the inner brake pad rivets were rubbing the bracket, so i had to grind about 3/16 off the bracket in the area the pad rivets were hitting. got it almost on, then noticed the back of the caliper, where the brake hose will screw into it, there was a knobbie sticking out from the casting that was interfeering with a spindle bolt. once i ground that knob down, it went on fine now.
so i hope to do the same to the passenger side on thursday, get them both mounted on saturday, then start mounting the master, booster, and plumbing the lines in, in the coming weeks. i will post some pics this weekend.. leonard | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | Sounds familiar so far  | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | well guys, i got both caliper brackets, rotors and calipers and pads installed. passenger side did not need the grinding on the caliper bracket like the drivers side did, but still needed to grind a small casting flaw that was interfeering with a spindle bolt. passenger side was a breeze compared to the drivers side. there are a few new pics in my web album. http://s251.photobucket.com/albums/gg307/RATRODKING/1957%203100/gonna get new front tires mounted to my centerlines that came in tuesday, and install them and drop the truck on the ground to see what she looks like and take a few pics. then its back on the stands to mount the master and booster, and replumb the entire truck. i will keep you updated.... leonard | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | Looking great Leonard! Mine has a 350 with a 700R4 tranny.TCI Mustang 2 front susp. with a TCI leaf spring kit in the rear.I like that low and mean look. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | thanks dale. one day i would like to install a 700r4 mayself.
so far i got the entire truck plumbed. what a pain that was. did the entire rear brake job today, turned the drums, new shoes and new wheel cylinders. had one heck of a time getting the passenger side wheel cylinder off, lost 2 hours with that. but it is all plumbed. now hopefully saturday morning i will bench bleed the master, mount it and the booster, and then bleed the entire system at each wheel. i am praying that i have no fluid leaks. if i do i will be very dissapointed. then before i go for a test drive i have to MODIFY the drivers exhaust since i cut the pipe off about mid trans, to clear the booster. so i will get me a length of the flexible exhaust pipe at a-zone for a temp fix so i can test drive it and see how it stops, then take it and get an entire new exhaust system put on it. i hope to do all this next week, or by next weekend. i ahve a lot of time on my hands now, since i got laid off from my machinists job on tuesday. LOL. i will keep you all updated. leonard | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 121 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 121 | i was wondering what wheel bearing they supplyed you with is there a part number on them?i have a freind that is selling brand new rotors and loaded calipers for a 74 comaro and if i had the bearin numbers i could buy the bearings and save alot of money over buying a kit. sorry for rambling.any help would be great. buy the way the truck is looking awsome great job
