Where does the oil canestor go on the 235? I think it bolts to the intake manifold on the firewall side of the carb but am insure. Then where do the 2 oil lines plug into? I see one port at the location where my oil guage tube runs into but cannot find another port and I have no idea if the top hose or bottom hose goes into there.

On my 56 car 235, the oil canestor does mount on the intake manafold, back side of the carb. The lower oil hose goes down to a T fitting in the block, just below the throttle linkage belcrank. the oil line for the gauge goes here too. The top hose fron the canestor goes down to the block too, about 8 in. forward from the lower oil hose, and down to a hole in the block, just above the pan. Hope this helps. Good luck!

on the AD's it was on the front of the manifold..

pls note: I asked about the rubber line hookups on the canister last week and got a slightly different answer:

Oil filter link

MAy not make a difference but I'd be curious which way it is on most Stovebolters trucks.

AC Oil Filter Installation Diagram/Instructions

Here is a labeled photo of a block. The canister inlet is on the upper right and the canister outlet is on the bottom.

Thanks a lot. Now when I fill up my oil, do I need to put oil in the canister?

There are so many arguments as to where these hoses go. I have had them both ways without problem and have seen original trucks that have been in wrecking yards for decades plumbed with the inlet going to the bottom and out the top.

. . . original trucks that have been in wrecking yards . . blush

Those "original" trucks are not on the road - so, this is proof of what? Almost none of "those" original trucks had their filters installed at the factory. I worked for a dealer in the late 60s - need I tell you have many times (never) I saw anyone look at a manual or at an installation sheet?

Those mis-installed oil filters might have worked, yet they might not have worked and that would not have caused any short-term noticeable problems (perhaps no worse than not have a by-pass filter at all).

There is nothing like documentation for a correct installation.
