I bought the disc brake adapter kit from Jim Carter, the one without rotors or calipers. They told me to use 70-77 camero/firebird or 73-76 chevelle or monty carlo rotors. the inner bearings won't work (to small) on any of them. Has anybody used these kits and if you have what rotors did you use or what did you do to make them work. FYI I have called and talk to Jim Carter and the front end is all original except for disc brakes (maybe)

What is the truck we are talking about?

Several years ago I got the complete 5 lug disc brake kit from Carter to put on my 59 gmc 1/2 ton. It was so ez a retrarded 9th grader could have put it on. Recently I put the 12 inch 6 lug disc brakes on another 59 gmc 1/2 ton. It wasn't quite as ez, but the end result is real nice.

Cotati ain't to far from SF. I may have a set of those rotors for you. They have been sitting for a bit, so they may or may not be usable. They were new and never used, but they have quite a bit of patina on them now.

I bought a similar kit, perhaps the same kit, but from a different vendor who I won't name because I refuse to recommend them. However, the disk kit worked out great.

The kit included some stepped sleaves that went on the spindle and worked with inner bearings that I believe also came with the kit.

The Truck is a 37 GMC 1/2 ton. I have those step sleeve in my kit also, the step were the bearing goes mics at 1.380 the inner bearing for the rotors they told me to use is 1.250. the rotor that fits the backing plate will work with 11" rotors but not 11 1/2"althought the 11 1/2" rotors have the right sized inner bearing but the wrong size outer bearing.

Bigbad I'll let you know by this week end what would the $ be

Free to a good home. Another way to go about the disc brakes is to use a 41-54 front axle on your 37. It is a bolt on change that is actually an upgrade in itself due to the larger diameter kingpins. It does sound like you have things worked out with your 37.

On my 1940 GMC I will be changing out the front axle to the later one and using the CPP 12 inch 6 lug disc brakes. I am curious to see what you came up with for a master cylinder mount.

There is a lip inside of the 11 rotors that a friend of mine is going to mill out to accept the bigger bearing (fyi he is a bonified machinest). but I think I am going to be on the look out for the 41-54 axle you are talking about for a later upgrade. I am changing the king pin in my axle now one side is shot for sure but neither one is comeing out easy.I like the idea of the bigger king pins and brakes. thanks for the offer and the info.
