I had to replace the bed because the PO had installed a custom made 1x8 plank bed. He didn't actually run the wood under the lips on the sides and didn't use a wood block to space the middle cross sill, yet still bolted it to the frame. This caused the cross sill to pull down (broke the stovebolt through the side bracket) breaking the wood on the frame. It took alot of surfing on this site to figure out exactly what was screwed up and how to go about fixing it. Unfortunately, the fix was pretty much new everything.
60 stovebolts in the bed floor alone. Some of them require much smaller hands than I possess to get started (especially on the rear cross sill). Still... a scant 6 hours and the bed is looking pretty darn good.
