Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | For rough guesstimating you can check the gallery for AD trucks of any size (1/2 ton up to about 3 ton) with a transplanted 454. If someone got it to fit in a small truck you can probably do it too. The space between the frame and under the hood is essentially the same for these trucks big or small.
The best way to find you answer is probably just start trying to stuff the engine in there. I was in much the same situation as you are when I started my engine swap, I searched for advice and someone else who had done it. Lots of trial and error and try again and finally it fits.

Try an ad on Craig's list, may find someone local who has some and will let you test fit before purchasing.
Get to know the guys at the junk yard, they can be your best friends. Around here all the yards I visit enjoy hearing and seeing my projects, are curious to see what I am into next, and are always willing to help, to trade stuff, or let me inspect and test something, so long as I return it unharmed, or buy it.
Often If I can describe what I am trying to do they can point me in the right direction, or recommend a part or component that should work better, or may fit, We'll go look in the yard, and I'll say, "like this one, but different here... one that does this..." and they can figure out just what to use. They can teach me things I would not have known on my own, or may not have seen or known where to look just looking around the yard by myself.
If they take an interest in your project you'll probably get a better deal on the parts you do buy.
