I drove up in 90 degree heat, at times driving 60-70 on the interstate. Temperature never even approached midway on the thermostat. I topped off the engine oil and transmission oil, loaded up the tools (just in case) and a gallon of water and spare hose and off I went.

I'm convinced that with proper care the old straight six will take you anywhere trouble free.

What type of driveline are you running with your 235?
Was there room in the bed for a "just in case" sleeping bag? :p

That 235 will take you anywhere you want to go, if it will go 100 miles, then just go and do not worry about it, sure it can break down, so can a new one. glad that you had a good trip...Fred

Actually it's a 230. In a '66 stepside. Stock driveline (3 speed on tree, 3.73 rear end). This is the 3rd long trip I've taken and they've all been absolutely trouble free. I'm much more confident in this truck than I was with the '64 Fleetside I had with a 350 v8 and Muncie 4 speed.

Amen, brother!

There is nothing like an old Chevy truck to make a trip memorable, even when nothing happens except the road unfolding beneath the tires.

Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!

Documentary...???...mmm...uhh.....uh oh! eek

Well I do, kinda sorta. I have all the stages of completion from the short block forward. It's all on still images, unfortunately, and not in live action. And I've got receipts like crazy.

All I need to do is grab a set of plugs and finish plumbing the intake water heat return supply line. Every moving component is rebuilt or new, including the distributor. I bought a cherry picker this past weekend so it's literally just a matter before.........vroom!

Any suggestions on plugs, Luke?

That is one bad looking engine, ftyler. I drive my '54 on 100 milers once in awhile too. Nothing like cruisin' the Interstate on a road trip. It's even better now with a T5. 60-65, no problem. grin
