Hello, I am about to undertake the project of replacement of the door hinge pins as well as the door glass and all associated runner components in my doors.

What is the best way to remove and resinstall the doors to the truck? I know someone will say take the bolts out and put them back in and there you are, but I am wondering what advice there is to make this possibly a one man job? Maybe some way of rigging up a simple support under the bottom edge and sing my floor jack to lift it in place? If not, has anyone had luck with a specific technique of using a portable engine hoist or such? Unfortunately I just drywalled my garage so throwing a rope over the rafter is pretty much out of the scope of possibilities.

I am also thinking pulling the glass prior to removal and putting the new glass in after remounting the doors will save some mass, but I am opne for suggestions here too.

Thanks in advance guys!

Kevin

naw, just ones that don't get noticed grin guess not many check in this forum regular

removing the glass will make them lighter, but one person can lift a door OK, just won't want to carry it far, or long

if you take the bolts off the hinge side on the door itself while the door is closed, you can gently open the door and slide it off the hinge ends, then remove the hinges from the pillar ... reverse that to re-install ... works for me

I had my passenger door off a few weeks ago. I opened the door part way, put a floor jack under the center of the door with a 1x2 wood strip between the two. Put just enough pressure to hold the wood there and unbolt the hinges from the door. You can slide the door off the hinges pulling the jack back. Just make sure you have the door balanced on the jack. I took it on & off about 3 times while replacing the lower hinge pillar.

I didn't find the doors to be extremely heavy. But I do agree that taking all the 'guts' out reduces the weight.

I slid the door off by my self.

Good luck.

Thanks guys for the advice. I had not thought of pulling them off like you mentioned, and had visions of not only difficulty with removal but also reinstall. Sounds like both are managable by myself which is great to hear!!!
