First question I have a 51 Chevy 1/2 ton three speed on the column and I usally grind second a little bit 90% of the time. First and Third and reverse are fine. Is there a linkage problem or is it a normal thing that I must live with? Second question I have two rims that don't have clips to hold my Chevroltet Moons. I bought the clips and put them on and I still can't get those moons on. Any one ever done this job and my clips are smaller than the clips on the front wheels. | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | TPB,
Can't help you on the clips, and maybe not the transmission either, but my bet is you have a bad 2nd gear synchronizer.

And there is no need to rev the engine when you do. A little practice and you should get it......Find a safe place to practice. When sitting still with the motor running in first gear slowly release the clutch pedal. When you feel the clutch start to engage stop and push it back in a little bit. That is Approx how far you need to depress the clutch to shift while moving. By letting the peddle come back to the top between shifts you match the speed of the gears in the tranny to the speed of the road and engine. This should allow a quiet shift......Hope this helps.
