Hey all, a question about the horn contact ring. My horn was working, so I pulled the contact ring and discovered that the insulation material on one of the three posts on the bottom side of the contact ring was gone and that the spring was fitting lop-sided. At any rate, I've determined that the contact ring is the problem. I am ordering a new one, but according to the photo in the catalog for a 47-53, the contact ring has a tab on it and is supposed to fit down into a slot in the steering wheel, presumably to keep the ring from turning. But I have checked my steering wheel and there is no slot to put the tab into. Has anyone else run into this problem and, if so, how did you resolve it? The steering wheel is by all accounts the original wheel. My old contact ring does not have a tab, but is had a slot in the hub hole that probably was to fit into a key in some application, but mine has no hub key either. I'm curious as to whether the insulator point (1 of the 3)is supposed to install over the top of the contact, or if the actual contact point is the ring anywhere between the insulator points.

Correction on the post: The horn was NOT working. Missed a word there. Also, this is a '53 Chev 3/4 ton. Rick

I'm not familiar with your particular application but often parts that are made to "fit" several different years will have extra bits & pieces, some that will fit one year but not another. The idea being you don't use what doesn't work on your vehicle. The tab might work OK on a 47. ohwell If the rest of the ring is correct for your truck just remove the tab & put it on.
