With no other recourse, I cut it at the roll and tried to pull it out, but it seems to have broken inside. What can I do to fix this? Need my welder! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 92 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 92 | Hi Clint. Sounds like you'll probably have to replace the liner inside the whip. The liner basically looks like the outside of a choke cable. I'm not sure how much welding time you have on yours, but the liner can get filled with dust and debris that comes off the wire as it passes through. Usually when the liner gets clogged up you get trouble like your having now. They make felt wipers and lube that you put on the welding wire to help keep the liner clean as you weld.
If you've got some stiff solid core wire you might try pushing it in the liner to shove the old wire out.

It will keep the wire clean and it is very cheap insurance. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 45 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2005 Posts: 45 | I do about the same thing as Brad Allen except I use a pc. of scotchbright pad about 1" square a fold it over the wire between the spool and the feeder and put one of those small metal pinch type paper clips on it. I don't know but I feel it may also may help clean some oxidation off the wire as it is being fed through the feeder. (sometimes my wire gets pretty old)
I never thought of it but I do like the earplug idea also.
That is what's nice about this forum, you do learn things that you never thought of.
