V8 timing chain and gears, note the position of the cam retaining bolts, and the crankshaft keyway relative to the timing marks, this is the straight up factory timing, hope that helps. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/pintos4me/timingmarks.jpg | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | "0" is straight up factory timing. "A" is advanced, usually 4 degrees "R" is retarded, again often 4 degrees. The advance can help compensate for a worn chain and gears but the racers are the ones that utilize the advanced or retarded cam for dialing in the power in the range they want it.
