Hi,

Does anyone have a blow up view or diagram for a 1941 wiper motor?

The pull switch isn't on the motor - I have the parts - but wondered how it should fit together.

Can you get a repair kit for these anywhere?

Dalbuie- Have you opened up the motor? There isn't much to it at all. As I remember it, there is a paddle, a filter and a couple of valves on top, but not much more. Mine was sluggish so I carefully opened it up and lubricated the paddle with vaseline after thoroughly cleaning the solidified gunk. It helped a lot.

I thought Wiperman charges a flat $99 rebuild + freight. You might consider checking DHL or a similar outfit to get the freight cost.

Do a google search. You'll find that there are some pages out there that discuss your question. Don't limit yourself to year and model- those vacuum wipers didn't change much over the years. The "technology" didn't leap.

Cool that you have a 'bolt up there in Scotland. It can't be easy keeping one running up in the highlands.

That's what I site says $99+ shipping. And your right Bill, there isn't much to them. The kicker is getting the gaskets, and paddle. The gaskets you could make your self if you have the time, but the paddle is the real problem. It's a woven fabric mat that is originally impregnated with what I think was a graphite grease. It must make a very good seal or the wiper is going to be sluggish and stall. It doesn’t take very much of a leak for a vacuum device to loose it’s power.
I tried to buy the parts from the Wiperman but the only way he will sell you the parts is in a rebuilt unit for $99 and they are not available anywhere else.

Thanks. I'm on the East coast of Scotland just outside Edinburgh so parts delivery is usually OK.

I've has good service from Jim Carter and American Classic Parts.

I'll strip it and have a go - since I have nothing to loose, and if all else fails Jim Carter does do a 6V electric replacement.

I'm not sure how many parts will interchange with yours, but I have a 1950 Stovebolt vacuum motor sitting on my bench that I've just taken out of my truck; let me know if it's any good to you and I can send it by post.

There are a few trucks about and they are becoming more popular, prices are still fairly steep though. Prices start at about $6000. Fuel is up again - now at approx $10 an imperial gallon.

and WOW, i thought he had high gas prices over here in the states. 10 dollars an imperial gallon,, OUCH.
yea, i know, my truck is too shinny for the name ratrodking. LOL. i get that all the time. my nephew made the name for me before i even had a truck. LOL.
