The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 48 Chevy 3/4 ton flatbed??

I have found a truck that is owned by its third owner. He has had it for 40 years. He bought it from his dad and his dad bought it from a friend of his that bought it new. Here is the question, He says it is an original flatbed 3/4 ton, 8 lug wheels and only four wheels, not a dually. Has four speed in floor as it should I guess. I have never seen a 3/4 ton flatbed, is that the real deal? I may be the only person that has never seen one but I can get it at a good price just I am not sure he is correct although he seems to be a super nice guy and he is positive that it came from factory as a flatbed or stakebed as he calls it. He has had it painted three different times over the years and it appears to be in good shape. So, for all the experts out there, did Chevy make a 3/4 ton stakebed in 48 and would the VIN tell me anything??? thanks! slowgoer

It would be a model 3608 (flatbed) or a 3609 (stake), but could also be a 3603 (chassis and cab) if the bed was installed aftermarket. Single wheels were std equipment on 3/4 tons, duals were optional, so it very well could be a correct 3/4 ton flatbed.
About the only things you'll get from the vin (door #) will be the assembly plant, year, series (series only, not body style), and month of manufacture.

Bill; He did say that it had single wheels on back but it can have duels added and that it is a stake bed so I guess it is a 3609. Does anyone know if they are common or rare or if they have much value when restored? thanks mitchell
