Does Anyone know why the brake caliper is hanging up ? It stops fine but I can hear it squealing lightly and its burning up the pads ?
In fact the wheel is covered in brake dust ?

Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | Improper master cylinder, proportioning valve, or mixed up plumbing, and as a result something is holding a little pressure in the line? My first thought is a residual pressure check valve built into the master cylinder, and intended for drum brake system, but that is just a guess.
When it does this, can you crack the bleeder screw and get any fluid?

BUT I had brake dust on both wheels, It could be the proportioning valve. When I got everything I was welding and grinding at the frame only to find the proportioning valve laying in the floor covered in dirt and metal shavings from all the grinding I thought I had cleaned it good enough but...
I'll check it at the bleeder screw to see if there's any fluid the next time I take it out...Very good point on the proportioning valve, I just hope it's not the master cylinder.

Turns out the calipers are 'rebuilts'. Check you dont have a 'sticky' piston and that your flexi lines aren't kinking when you turn the steering. If both were hanging up,both wheels would get pretty hot real quick.Just a thought...For disc brakes your proportioning valve should be 2lb. just in case you've been sent the wrong one!  Hope this helps. Jock  Correction I meant residual valve!

"$old" | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 677 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 677 | I Finally got the problem figured out with my front calipers hanging up, Some one told me that "I did not have the master cylinder cleaves rod adjusted correctly. I had to shim the master cylinder from the booster to get the correct clearance. The weight of the pedal was enough to heat the brakes up". AND IT WORKED !! So now that I know what it is, Im going to remove the master cylinder and try to adjust the cleaves rod... or I might just leave the shims in and call it done. Thanks Ted !!!
