Hello All, my first post here. I finally got started on restoring (ground up) my dad's 53 chevy truck. It originally had a very tired 216ci which I have since retired. I plan on using a 235ci out of a 55 Chevy car. I need the engine mount hole specs from the truck engine so I can drill the car engine for the front mount. I have the 235 cleaned up and know it runs good, I am tuning, painting, and replacing valve seals and thats about it. So far have frame painted, suspension cleaned-painted ready for drive line. Any help is very much appreciated!

Hello Robb,

I was in the same spot as you just a few weeks ago. I had ordered the front engine isolation mount and found out that I had only been sent the rubber block. I took the old mount off a truck with a 216 and lined it up with the front engine mount plate and found that the holes lined up. You might have to purchace a new top heat deflector plate because mine was worn thin and corroded through. The bottom plate was in good shape and I decided to keep that. There are two bushings and two large penny washers as well as four carriage bolts that hold the entire assembly down. If you want a drawing, I can fax you something with measurments and a parts breakdown.

Checked the forum, but didn't locate any specs on the holes, I need the specs because it appears my 216 was drilled also? It looks as if someone drilled a 2 series of four small holes holes so the carriage bolts would seat and not turn. Doesn't even look close to factory holes so I did not want to rely on this particular setup. The truck ,when running before, had a clanging when the clutch was engaged, checked the U-joint it looks ok, maybe engine was out of line? Will be replacing clutch,PP and turning flywheel, also checked rear end, looks OK. frown
By the way this was not the original engine, the numbers were ground off so I have no clue as to what size or year this engine is for sure.
Thanks for your help though!

Geez, I wish I could help you out Robb. I thought the early 235 was a direct bolt up operation for your truck.
