I found a decent looking vac motor for my wipers. I don't know what it came from. Everything seems to look right except for the bushings for attaching the reciprocating arm to the long bars. The arm has a brass bushing on each end, in the shape of a small nut. These nuts do not fit into the holes in the long bars for the linkage for each wiper. So, I can't attach the vac motors I bought to the long bars that were original to my truck. I don't know what the old one looked like either. Has anyone been there? Thanks - Scott

You're OK, the arms should have a rubber grommet that fits inside the hole. This rubber grommet will then work fine with the hex shape on the motor. Mine were hard as a rock. I'm sure all the vendors that specialize in the old trucks know what you need and have the part. Or maybe a local electronics store may have such small grommets, used for wiring passing through metal.
Once you replace these grommets then you secure the whole mess with this spring affair that clips over the 'hex' heads on the wiper motor. Clear as mud I'm sure, get a parts book or catalog from Carters or Chevs of 40s.

Heck this past weekend I made a couple of these bushings from some scrape Rubber that I had and my Dremel tool. It took me a little bit but I did it. I wasn't able to duplicate the hex so I just made a hole and used a little liquid soap for instalation. Works great!

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll be able to buy a nylon bushing to fill the gap after I remove the hex bushing. - Scott

What year truck ? al AD's had the brass hex bushings on the motors , I used aerosol silicone lubricant on the new rubber bushings as they kept popping out as I tried to slide the linkage arms on .

There is no problem so difficult it cannot be overcome by generous application of brute force & ignorance
