I am trying to get some sort of idea the value of my 454 (casting # 3999289 2-bolt main 1972-74) The dern thing is apart, block, heads (oval port set and a square port set), pistons, cam, all in a pile.
Needs dipped and rebuilt for sure.
Is this a very desireable engine?
Can I core it in for a small block and get the full value?

Any info would be helpfull.

a 454 long-block core is worth at least 500 bucks minimum !!! a shop told me a 4-bolt core i had was worth 1000!! you would be better off buying a 350 core and selling the rat! what are you putting the engine in ??? big blocks drink gas but they can be fun!!! grin grin grin

Here, a 454 "basket case" (all apart, but complete) is worth at least $800-900.
If you decide to use it, don't use the square port heads. Use the oval ports (unless they are "bathtub" chambered, then they aren't worth much. The bare block alone would bring $500.

Think twice about the SBC. They are very generic, but very cheap to maintain and repair.

Good luck, whatever you decide. smile
