Finally. Having temperatures warmed to the mid-thirties last week allowed me access to my late-winter purchase of a 1967 Series 40 Tilt Cab water truck. Amazingly, the ole' boy fired instantly - thereby making me a believer in the previous owner's assertion: "It ran good when I parked it". The 75 mile trip home was, largely, uneventful. However I am now wondering just what colour wine one serves with fried voltage regulator and crispy horn. Reaching back to a younger day saw a quick hot-wired coil and trip resumption. The mystery of non-functioning speedometer was solved as well; difficult to spin needles and dials without cable assembly. Ah, well, mere beginning of a sure-to-be-large parts shopping list. But, with gasoline now at $5.89gal., I'm in no great rush to wear out the tires anyway. Speaking to the needed parts, is there a specific catalogue better suited for the big'uns? I rather think that a used speedometer assembly for a tilt would be difficult to locate. Plus, I do enjoy thumbing and dreaming while waiting for the lake ice to disappear.(Where is global warming when it's really needed?)
