what would be the best rearend ratio to use with a powerglide bolted to a 230 i6

-daily driver
-driven on freeway
-230 with clifford rebuild kit,264 cam and 4barrel 390 carb

Hy ghettobug, you didn't tell us what vehicle this setup is in, rear end ratios for trucks are limited. If you want the best mileage, the lowest ratio [numerically] will provide that, if you haul or tow, you want a higher ratio. Let us know what truck we're talking about, and we can probably find out what ratios are available, hope that helps.

the truck is a 1964 chevy c10 short fleetside. i will not be towing anything with this truck. i will also be driving on the freeway daily.

I'd think interms of 3:36 or thereabouts, certainly nothing higher (numerically lower) for a 230. That would approximate what GM put in a car with that engine.

It also depends on tire size. I'm with Moneypit, something in the 3.55 ratio.

where could i find a 3.36 or 3.55 ring and pinion?

would a 55-62 3.38 ratio work ok? i was just looking at the jim carter catalog.

or would i be better off keeping the 3.73 ratio?
