I had differing opinions about this; will 22.5 tires fit 22" rims? If not where can I find 22" tires?

Hy uncleb, 22.5 inch tires will DEFINATLY NOT FIT 22 inch wheels, 22.5 inch tires are tubeless design, 22 inch are tube type, hope that helps.

22.5's are 20" tubeless. 24.5's are 22" tubeless. Do a Google on antique and obsolete tires and you'll likely find something.

Do you mean that a 24.5 will fit the 22" rim?

A 22.5 tire fits a 22.5" rim, that is all, and same goes for all other tire sizes, a 22" tire only fits a 22" rim

He was saying that 20" tires and wheels have been replaced/updated with 22.5" and so on for the other sizes.

Just as with a car you cannot put a tubeless tire on a tube type wheel. If you think about it you MUST know that.

well, I'd say one of your questions got answered, you can't mix the sizes - as for the other question, 22" tires [other than for bicycles] seem to come in one size only - what are these for, how wide are the rims, and are you sure they're 22", not 20?

OK, my turn- - - - - -

Tubeless tires with a very noticeable taper where the bead meets the rim are graduated in sizes such as 14.5", 16.5", 19.5", 22.5, 24.5, etc. The shape of the proper wheel is an exact match to the shape of the tire. THEY DO NOT FIT ON ANY OTHER SIZE WHEEL, AND ATTEMPTING TO DO SO WILL GET YOU KILLED!

Here is a height comparison:

14.5" wheels fit mobile home axles. I don't know of a corresponding height tube-type tire

16.5" wheel/tire assemblies are the same overall height as a 15" tube type tire/wheel assembly.

19.5" wheel/tire assemblies are the same height as a corresponding 18" tube type wheel/tire assembly.

22.5 tubeless is the same height as 20" tube-type.

24.5" tubeless is the same height as 22" tube type.

If you attempt to mix and match tubeless tires and tube type rims- - - -pick out your pallbearers, flowers, and the music to be played at your funeral. Then triple your life insurance coverage so your survivors can profit from your stupidity!

Where is a good source of 22" tires? I've scoured the internet for 22.00 x 11.00 tires and have come up empty handed.

Try changing your search to 11.00X22. The first number is the approximate tread width, the second number is the rim diameter, both in inches.

22" tires are difficult to find now, and can be expensive.
In my opinion it is not worth keeping the 22" wheels if you can replace them with tubeless wheels, 22.5" or 24.5" and the corresponding tires.
If it was for an original restoration then I suppose I would be looking for 22" tires.

I think several tire dealers advertise in the ATHS Wheels of Time magazine, that would be a start.

What truck is this for, and what are your plans for the truck?

Thanks guys; that was my question. I didn't need to hear about tire height or pall bearers......... Tire charts still list 10.00-22 and 11.00-22 but I can't find them. They're for my '47 GMC so I want to keep the original rims. Maybe someone knows.

I'm trying to find some for a '56 White 9000TD that I'm looking at. It has Dayton wheels and I'm not sure what will interchange and I thought it would be easier to keep the 22" wheels on it.

66stepside,
You will probably find it is cheaper to switch to 24.5" Daytons than to buy 22" tires. Accuride list those rims in the current catalog, so I bet you can get them new if not used, they would be a direct bolt on swap. I think you have asked about this before?

uncleb,
I could not find any at the antique truck tire places I could think of, at least not on their websites. Check a Wheels of Time for some possible sources, if you are not already an ATHS member, then now is the time to join, and you will get the magazines. http://www.aths.org/
I know there are some used ones out there, as my neighbor has two 22" tires on a rear axle he has, they are on decent aluminum wheels, but he said the wheels are scrap, because you can't get 22" tires. He will be running 22.5" wheels when he installs that axle in his service truck.
I also saw a KW a few months ago in a junk yard with a set of ten 22" tires on it.
You may have better luck in the junk yards looking for 22" tires than a tire store.

I still buy 10:22" tires here in Ca. In Bias ply only, radials seem to no longer excist, and I've searched all over the western states for them.

Grigg, I haven't asked about this before, I'm still getting my feet wet in the world of big rigs. I've seen the Accuride rims in catalogs, but I didn't know that they were a direct bolt on for the 22" 6 spoke front hubs.

The dual rears use the same size tires, but are on 5 spoke hubs, would changing out the rims to 24.5 be a direct swap as well?

They're for this truck that I'm saving up for still. The next two pictures are the front and rear wheels and hubs.

Here local in San Luis Obispo at Waynes Tire or in Lemoore at Billingsly tire. In your part of the country Les Schwab should be able to do it, used to get radials from schwab untill a couple years ago.
