will a powerglide auto column work with a 200r4 trans? if so, what linkage would i use?

i wanted to use a powerglide but this will be my daily driver and will be driven on the freeway every day so the 200r4 seems like a better choice but i would also like to keep a stock look inside my 64 c10 and would like it to be a automatic trans.

will a powerglide run 75-80 miles a hour without hurting the motor and trans? i dont know much about them.

also im gonna use a 230 i6 with work done to it.

thanks

There won't be enough selector positions to align with all the gear positions, so you'll have to count clicks to get to the right gear. Also, the Powerglide shift pattern is P-N-D-L-R, so a car thief would get terribly confused trying to find the right gear! I used to drive the family's 63 Impala with a 327/PG setup 100+ MPH pretty often, so highway speeds with a PG won't be a problem with an engine that can stand the RPM.

Sure it will, anything that will move the lever on the side of the transmission will work be it floor shift, column shift, rod, cable, you name it. The shift position indicator won't be correct and the neutral safety switch might just work in the "park" position but it will definitely work. When you make up the shifter rod have the shifter handle in the park position and the trans in park to get the starting length. Everyone is used to the Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, shift pattern that has been standard for years so the indicator isn't necessary. I don't look at the one in my pickup after using it for years and I bet most people don't either unless they're in a unfamiliar ride.

Aren't you all assuming that the shift qaudrant is located in the dash for column he intends to use? If you want to put one on the column itself you can use a Danchuk art # 10248 @ 21.95. It's the same as used for 56-57' Chevy cars when switching to a 200 or 700R4 tranny. Once the rod is detached from the shift lever it should be free to move about w/o regard to the indicator. As for neutral safety switches they can be located outside the column and are also available.

thanks for the reply guys.

im new to all this. the only cars i have really messed with are classic vws so theres a big difference.

would i be better off with a powerglide or a 200r4? im not building a hotrod just a daily driver that will be driven normal
(at speed limit speeds) but also on the freeway (75-80mph) daily. i will be putting a clifford rebuild kit in the 230 i6 with their 264 cam and four barrel manifold with a holley 390 carb and clifford headers. might make the 230 a 250 not sure yet.

thanks for the help guys

PG or TH700 both work fine and IMO it depends largly on what rear end ratio your going to have in the vehicle. Too high a ratio in OD with the 700R4 may not be best suited to the 230 engine. Use whatever will keep it in the torque curve for the MPH your after. If your rearend is say 3.73 for example it would be like a 2:75 in OD.

What is this vehicle anyway?
