Hi Guys,
I was toying with the idea of adjusting the valves in my 52. It has a 1956 235 in it. I looked in the Motors Truck Manual I have, and the settings are different for the Thriftmaster versus the Blueflame. I did a search here on Blueflame and came up empty. So what is the difference in the two engines? and how do you tell them apart? Or is there any real difference?

the 'blue flame six' is the car engine, mostly with hydraulics, the thriftmaster is the truck engine, with solids unless it came with an automatic trans ... settings will be just that difference

Hey Bill,
Thanks for the reply. I had seen Blueflame mentioned in some of the books that I have, but hadn't seen it talked about here on the Stovebolt. Do you know of any castings on the block that might indicate which engine is in the truck? Jimmie

Jimmie D;
Take a look at the numbers stamped on the flat pad just behind the distributor, then go to this sight and look up the codes for 1956.

Bill;
Thanks again. I think I have all those numbers written down somewhere in this mess I call a "work space" 8) I will find them and check out Keith's web site. Jimmie.

the code on the pad by the distributor will tell if someone with the numbers book chimes in, other than that, taking the side cover off and looking at the lifters? the lash settings should make it obvious, and the mechanicals will have a slight lifter 'clatter' when running - other than the hydraulic lifters I don't think there's any difference .... if it's hydraulics you can quit thinkin about adjusting, if solids, 0.006 intake, 0.013 exhaust should do it, but don't try to make them perfecly quiet or you'll have trouble
