I had heard that you can put a AMC Pacer front end under a 1940 - 1955 truck. So I looked in the catalog at Jim Carter and see they make a kit. Would this kit work for a 1939 Chevy 1/2. What is the difference between the 39 and 40? Has anyone done this swap to a 1939 before?

There is very little difference between a 39 and 40, so I don't see why you couldn't do that swap. Being the proud owner of a 1940, I only ask why would you want to do that swap?

The biggest complaint about straight axle trucks is how they handle, and how they stop. There are tricks to getting your stock front end to both handle and stop better. That being said... it's your truck and you could do whatever you want to it. Good Luck Mate!

fairly simple swap.we did it to my 49.main issues are locating a pacer which is getting harder to do.parts are available but you have to look for them.take a look at chassis engineering in west b ranch iowa for the kit also,i think they make them for jc.i've done my whole truck with their kits and am pleased.you can even call and tell them you are thinkin of buying and they will fax you the instructions to take a peak at.anyway my .02.............dave.....ps do a search for pacer front end.there was a pretty good thread in the hipo fourm a couple mos.ago.one guy did some drop lower control arms that were pretty cool....................dave

You are right. I hate the way the truck handles and stops. But I like the idea of adding disk brake to my truck. I would be willing to try any tricks to see if it helps.

Hey, I'm an AMC owner. We love Pacers like you guys love you stovebolts. A Pacer has to die so you can rod a stovebolt? No way. Use somebody's store bought kit.
