i have here a donor 2nd gen camaro its an auto with a i6
il probably go with a 350 motor or maybe a 305 in my truck but is there any usefull parts on this camaro worth saving?
iv saved the rear end but
will the i6 starter fit a v8
is the trany a 350? or any better suited?
whats the i 6 motor likley to be and is it worth using? | | | | | | Houston54 Unregistered | | Houston54 Unregistered | Camaros are good donors depending of what truck you have and what parts you want to use.
The I6 motor is probably a 250 and is a good motor. Some say you can get good power from them but it takes more money to do so than a small block chevy V8. The tranny is probably a TH350 but I could not tell you if it would work behind a V8 but it should. I have not heard that the automatics behind the I6 were any different than those behind V8s.
The front sub-frame is a good choice for upgrading your suspension IF you have a 55-59 truck (what year do you have?) but is not the best option for the 47-54 AD trucks. It can be made to work though.
The rear axle is probably a 8.5 inch 10 bolt which would be fine beneath most any truck but the axle ratio may be numerically too low for serious performance. It would be fine for highway driving and improved fuel mileage aspects.
The e-brake cables can be made to work if doing an axle swap. The master cylinder and booster also work fine as does the swing pedal assembly.
You can even use the front seats and seat belts if you want.
Overall it is a good donor car for MOST trucks.

thanks for the info i have a 49 ad 1/2 ton swb i was thinking about the booster n peddals so if they work well in my truck great as i have a disc brake kit for my beam wichuses camaro caipers n rotors . i was going to ifs the front but i thik the camaro set upn kick the wheels out too far
so a i6 and v8 sbc have the same bellhousing bolt pattern?
would there be any gain in useing the i6 torque convertor on the v8 if it fits? | | |
