have a 46 1/2t pu. just pulled the gas tank and found i only have a top 1/2. have looked at the usual parts sites and done a general google search and ebay w/ no luck. where do you guys and girls usually go for new tanks?

does anyone know the range of make model year that are replaceable in this truck? a model # for the tank? i am waiting on my manuals and don't have this info handy.

thanks

bowtie bit has one made from stainless steel for about 600 or so. I would put an add in the parts wanted section and see if you can come up with a good used tank for less money.

41-46 will be a perfect fit. 39 will fit and work but drain hole on tank bottom is in a differnt location. Not certain about 40. I would think chevy and GMC would be the same. You may find slight differences in capacity with bigger tonage.

I don't know if this helps but my dad hatted the gas tank coming from the center of his 46 Chevy panel truck (really small tank) so we removed it and placed a tank under the rear of the truck with a small goose neck coming up flush to the outside of the truck. We used a Polyethylene Gas Tank out of a 53 Chevy car including the fill nozzle. It even came with the straps! thumbs_up

Here's were we bought it
