I was bead blasting my '41 Coe's painted cab hand grabs and noticed they have been chromed at some time in the past. Are they chrome when new?

I'm Not sure about the grab handles, but the door handles on my '46 were chrome. I think the grabs may have been, but they were pretty rusty and I just thought they would look nice chrome regardless, so that what they are now.
