Does anybody know what transmission a '47 1-1/2 ton 4400 should have? I believe mine was changed out along the way. Also, is the transmssion the same for the smaller trucks or is it a heavier version?

SM 420 4spd was for 48 up to 67. It has the synchronizers in it, to aid shifting. You may have had early 4spd w/out synchros and have to double clutch up and down shifting, a pain! Maybe someone put in a later trans for this feature. Don't know what model it is in early trucks. Ask Tony, he has an early 3-ton, he may know what hes has in it. He's on the boards here, check for his name and click on profile to get email address.
