My engine block number is 2135412; how can I determine if it is a 248 or a 270 block?

Buy a book on your truck or hope someone can give you the info.I think the manual is your best route in the long run For around $20 it will answer all your ???????'s

On a GMC, the first 3 numbers on the flat machined surface on the block, just behind the distributor, will be the displacement of 228, 248, 270, and 302 motors.

I have found the numbers at http://www.inliners.org/casting/numgame.html to be accurate. It shows that block only being used for the 270.

I agree the manual is a good inverstment, but I have never found them much good in trying to identify a motor.
