Bolters, I purchased some repop running boards that are painted with the black EDPM or EPDM coating and I need to know what is best to primerbefor top coat. Can I just overcoat with my epoxy primer and then a sandable 2k primer. I'm using PPG products at present for the rest of the old parts.

EDPM & EPDM both refer to a type of rubber grin

EDP is Electro-Deposit Primer, similar to the powder coating process, a good primer that's rust proof as long as it's sound, only needs a scuff sand before painting

I would recommend scuffing it with a 3M pad and shooting it with either epoxy primer or high build. I would not top coat over the EDP directly. Some EDP applications are not that good. Take some lacquer thinner on a rag and rub the EDP. If any comes off then I would suggest stripping it all off the outside surface and re-priming. You do not want to take chances with the top coat.

Well I knew it was EDP something or other but thanks for straighteneing me out. Looks like I'll epoxy prime and then top coat. Now there's another question. Should running boards be the same color as the body or just Black? Thanks for the information on the primer and scuffing.
