I am trying to fix my parking brake. I purchase two parking brake cables what to I attach them to? The catalogs don't offer a Parking brake shoe lever for a 1951 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton. I need your help guys.

Are you saying you don't have the emergency brake petal? Or are you asking how to hook up the rods? Do you have a factory assembly manual?

Each cable attaches to the lever that attches to right (rear) shoe. Look at the bottom diagram at the link and you will see the rear brake parts.

When the cable pulls the lever forward there is a spreader bar between the two shoes (the "strut" in the diagram - the parts names are a little hard to read). The spreader bar (strut) forces the forward shoe against the drum (actually both shoes gets forced against the drum by the lever's action).

My guess is that you need the lever and the strut. I'd post a want ad in the Swap Meet.

When I look in catalogs they don't seem to carry them for 1/2 ton.

I was lucky enough to have one strut so I took it to the Chevy Dealer parts department and the guy at the counter found one very similar that I used.

Like Tim says, put an ad in the Parts Wanted section... you'll have your best chance there unless you're in a hurry.

Parts suppliers don't carry these. I did post a wanted ad and got a reply from a guy in NY. Good price and sent me everything I needed.
